聚焦具有历史意义的洛杉矶Laurel Canyon，这里诞生了一些标志性音乐团体，如飞鸟乐队、海滩男孩、水牛春田以及爸爸妈妈乐队。。制作团队表示，他们在重新阅读《哈利·波特与混血王子》时产生了一些好奇和启发，原著小说里有一段是讲述邓布利多教授带着哈利·波特，一起观看来自家养小精灵郝琪的回忆，描绘了赫普兹巴·史密斯以及收藏的赫奇帕奇和斯莱特林遗物的线索。这部自制电影就从这个点延伸出去的拓展剧情。 早在2016年时就由独立制片工作室「Tryangle Films」筹划拍摄，靠着集资网站来募款筹措资金，虽然一度被拥有《哈利波特》系列版权的片商华纳兄弟以侵犯权为由要求下架，但经过制作团队多次的沟通和协商后，华纳终于确定全面放行。。Set in a small town in West Texas, four boyhood friends who made a solemn promise to leave town together immediately after high school graduation must now "put up or shut up."
