Until in 1955 the Soviet government realised that those lands, for how much far could they be from the rest of the World, were just...。穆德（David Duchovny 大卫•杜楚尼饰）被外星反叛者劫持，而斯科莉（Gillian Anderson 吉莲•安德森饰）亦同时发现自己怀有身孕。穆德的办公室被搜查，斯科莉请求Skinner（Mitch Pileggi 饰）帮助寻找搭档，孤枪侠也参与进来。FBI高层则派出探员约翰•多格特（Robert Patrick 罗伯特•帕特立克饰）协助调查，但两个人的初次会面不欢而散。 调查局发现穆德的单位密码和信用卡在失踪后的几天都有使用纪录，甚至发现了刻有穆德生卒年月的墓碑。多格特认为穆德假装失踪，以便盗取资料独自调查。案情愈加扑朔迷离……。
