该剧以北海道郊区新设的儿童重症监护室（PICU＝Pediatric Intensive Care Unit）为舞台，当地由于地域广阔难以提供及时的医疗服务，医生们努力创建可以尽快救治患者的设施。吉泽亮饰演有些笨拙不成熟的年轻儿科医生志子田武四郎，他一直与母亲一起生活，与PICU医生植野元（安田显）相遇改变了他的人生。。讲述一架在布鲁塞尔的航班起飞后，此时太阳活动突变令到被照射到的生物通通死亡，因此有幸逃过一劫的飞机试图向西面飞去以躲在黑暗中。航班上包括富豪﹑穷人﹑年轻人﹑老人﹑平民﹑军人等，他们只有一个目标：在这太阳浩劫下幸存……问题有些人为此可是会不择手段。。When Isabella Tree and her husband arrived at the rural estate they had inherited and saw the vast swathes of farmland that came with it, they immediately saw how sick the land was—entire habitats destroyed, bird and plant species gone extinct, fields saturated with chemicals.
