阿彩（酒井法子饰）回到北海道一年后，拓巳（竹野内豊饰）也来到这里，情愿为了追随阿彩而在穷乡僻壤做个小医生。
阿彩在东京的好友结婚了，她和拓巳飞回去参加婚礼，在这里，她遇见了曾经深爱的恋人秀一（大沢たかお饰），得知他和祥子生活得很幸福，俩人的孩子也诞生在即，阿彩决定彻底忘怀过去，并接受拓巳长期以来的深厚情意。
不幸发生了，祥子在难产中死去，原来祥子的身体根本无法承受生孩子的痛苦，但她却要求医师（沢村一樹饰）为她保守这个秘密，诞下和秀一的爱的结晶。
