A story of family revelations, people finding each other ...。平静的一天，警局却突然出现了大骚动。原来古畑任三郎（田村正和 饰）下落不明，引来各方恐慌与猜测。据古畑刑警的好搭档今泉慎太郎（西村雅彦 饰）的描述，古畑在解决完二叶凤翠（山口智子 饰）的案件后（SP しばしのお別れ），只身前往别庄，也就是漫画家小石川千波（中森明菜 饰）的别墅（第一回 死者からの伝言），从此便消失无踪。为了查明真相，警方调查了小石川千奈美、中村右近（堺正章 饰）、黑田清（石黒賢 饰）等所有古畑抓获过的犯人，他们有的对古畑感恩有加，有的对其愤恨不已，然而却始终找不到丝毫有用的线索。最终的结果却令人捏了一把汗……
