私家侦探杰克受一位房地产开发商杰克鲍曼的委托，调查他的妻子与饱曼的事业合伙人通奸的事实与见证。不料饱曼的妻子与合伙人正在旅馆开房间时，鲍曼冲了进去，枪杀了合伙人。而合伙人的妻子则控诉这是鲍曼的一项阴谋，是蓄意的谋杀，鲍曼为的是想吞并整个产业……。Tom Barnaby joins the Causton Chamber of Commerce trip to Brighton as he is suspicious of dodgy mayor Hicks' plan to buy coastal land on which to buy chalets.
